Overview
Begin your journey in Istanbul, the vibrant metropolis uniquely straddling two continents—Europe and Asia. With its rich blend of cultures, Istanbul offers an array of historical and cultural landmarks, from magnificent mosques and palaces to bustling bazaars and serene waterfronts. As you relax by the Bosphorus at sunset, watching the evening light dance on the city’s minarets and across the water, you’ll understand why this iconic city has captivated travellers for centuries.
Leaving Istanbul, we follow the scenic coastline of the Sea of Marmara towards Gallipoli, a site of historical significance. We then head south to explore the legendary city of Troy, where ancient history comes to life in its 5,000-year-old ruins. Continuing onwards, we visit the remarkable archaeological wonders of Ephesus, followed by the striking terraces and thermal pools of Pamukkale.
Travelling along the stunning Aegean coast, we discover some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Turkey. The coastline, with its crystal-clear waters, expansive beaches, and lush olive groves, offers a perfect balance of natural beauty and tranquil charm.
Our journey continues through the spectacular Mediterranean coast, once known as Lycia. This region, famed for its turquoise waters and pine-clad hills, is dotted with secluded coves and sandy beaches. Here, we’ll explore a wealth of ancient Greco-Roman ruins, including the historic sites of Caunos, Letoon, Pinara, and Xanthos, as we trek through this captivating terrain.
The adventure concludes in Antalya, a coastal gem steeped in history and natural splendour. From here, you can choose to return to Istanbul or embark on an international flight to destinations across Europe and Asia.
Hotels & Cuisine
On our journey through Asia Minor, each stop promises unique experiences of both comfort and charm, perfectly matched with the captivating surroundings. Our first night in Çanakkale finds us in a hotel just steps from the ferry that crosses the Dardanelles Strait. The area is full of life, with nearby boutiques and restaurants inviting us to explore the local scene. This setting provides the perfect balance of convenience and relaxation as we begin our adventure.
For the next three nights, we stay in the heart of nature at a serene vineyard in Selçuk. The idyllic landscape offers a peaceful retreat, with lush vines surrounding our accommodation. This is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy local wines, all while being close to the ancient wonders of Ephesus. Here, rural tranquillity meets historic grandeur, creating an unforgettable experience.
As we move to Pamukkale for one night, our hotel rests at the foot of the striking snow-white travertines. With a luxurious spa that includes a traditional Turkish bath, adorned with beautiful marble and Kütahya tiles, along with a sauna, Jacuzzi, and several swimming pools, it offers a haven of relaxation. After exploring the famous thermal terraces, this is the perfect place to rejuvenate and prepare for the next leg of our journey.
Our two nights in Dalyan bring us to a riverside hotel on the banks of the Calbis River, just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre. Here, we can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere with stunning views, while the hotel’s pool, Turkish bath, and massage services provide ample opportunities to unwind after a day of sightseeing. The blend of serene river views and vibrant town life makes Dalyan an enchanting stop on our trip.
Next, in Fethiye, our hotel offers magnificent views across the bay and is centrally located, allowing us easy access to explore this coastal town. The hotel’s Turkish bath and Finnish sauna are the perfect way to relax after a day spent discovering the local markets or lounging by the beach. The combination of stunning scenery and pampering amenities ensures a relaxing stay.
Our journey then takes us to Kaş, where we stay close to both the beach and the ancient amphitheatre for two nights. The charming coastal setting and relaxed vibe of the town are reflected in our accommodation. Whether we’re soaking in the sun by the beach or wandering through Kaş’s quaint streets, this stay promises to be both restful and memorable.
For the final two nights, we are immersed in the natural beauty of Çıralı, where our hotel is nestled near the ancient city of Olympos and the eternal flames of Mount Chimaera. With Cirali Beach just a short walk away, we’ll have the chance to see the WWF-protected breeding grounds of loggerhead turtles. This tranquil location, rich with both history and natural wonder, offers the perfect conclusion to our journey.
Throughout our 14-day adventure, the dinners will be as memorable as the sights. We’ll enjoy meals either at our hotels or in small, cosy local restaurants, where we can indulge in Turkish cuisine, one of the most celebrated in the world. Reflecting the country’s rich history, Turkish dishes are a delightful mix of flavours, heavily influenced by the Ottoman Empire. The country’s varied climate allows for an abundance of fresh, local ingredients.
While lamb was once the most popular meat, today we’ll find a delicious array of beef, fish, poultry, and vegetarian options, with eggplant being a standout ingredient in many dishes. Turkish cuisine isn’t typically spicy, except in the southern regions, where Middle Eastern influences add a bit of heat. We’ll also have the chance to sample excellent local wines, especially in the vineyard of Selçuk, making each meal a delightful culinary journey in its own right. Every meal promises to reflect the warmth, tradition, and vibrant history that make Turkish cuisine so exceptional.
